TIPS FOR CAPTURING YOUR KIDS
TIPS FOR CAPTURING YOUR KIDS
JESSICA ROSS PHOTOGRAPHY - NEWCASTLE FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHER
I love nothing more than capturing your family, the connection & love you have for each other.
But, being a mother myself to two amazing kids, some of my treasured memories have been captured on my phone. The everyday craziness I never want to forget.
With your children anytime is a special time in your life to capture, children grow so fast, you will look back on these images for many years to come
Family time is fun, adorable, full of love and real moments, my passion is capturing those moments of your children that will create lasting family memories for generations. But more often than not, we only have the camera on our phones handy during those beautiful, spontaneous moments.
Here are my tips to capturing those incredible moments of your kidsβ¦....
1. Look for the light.
Use a large window with some natural light coming in (although NOT direct sunlight)
Watch as it falls across your childrenβs faces, If outdoors look for even light, no shadows on faces
2. Touching the screen on your phone to adjust your exposure. You can push the little sun icon up or down
3. Choose where to focus, click the square on the screen where you want your focus to be.
4. Get down nice and low to view the world at their level.
5. Donβt forget to look at whatβs going on in the background. Busy backgrounds can be distracting so keep it nice and simple.
6. Use Portrait Mode (if your phone has it) to blur out the background and keep focus on your subject
7. Think about what they are wearing, choose a style you like and colours that compliment each other
8. Come in nice and close to capture all those perfect little features, their hands, feet, eyelashes and beautiful faces.
9. Exist in photos with your kids. Take turns with your partner to photograph those special moments when youβre interacting with your kids.
When theyβre older theyβre going to love looking back at these amazing memories.
10. Turn off your flash. It can be very unflattering, open up your blinds and look for the best natural light.
11. Photograph them in the backyard at the last light of day (1 hour before sunset)
See how the light changes at different times of the day
12. Edit your photos using apps like Lightroom or Photoshop Mobile for a more finished look.
You can use the EDIT in your phone, the auto (magic wand icon) is a good start
13. You can also create beautiful video slideshows and remember to print your photos so you have them forever.
14. This might seem a bit obvious but I see it all the time! If your photos are looking blurry and unclear,
clean your lens!!
15. And lastly, donβt forget to backup your photos for safe storage.
And just remember, all that matters is that YOU love the photo. It may never win a photo contest and your best friend may even think itβs a terrible photo, but if it makes YOU feel something and itβs something YOU will treasure forever, then pat yourself on the back for a job well done.
