Prep guide

Thank you for booking in your session with Jessica Ross Photography

I'm really looking forward to capturing your family. Family time is fun, adorable, full of love and real moments,

this is what I aim to capture of your family, the connection & love you have for each other.

With your children anytime is a special time in your life to capture, children grow so fast, you will look back on these images for many years to come

Thank you for letting me be a part of such a special time!

I have put together this prep guide as your go-to resource to help you prepare for the best possible outcome.

during your session

I will bring a posing bean bag, blankets, wraps, bloomers (to cover nappies) and some little outfits.

If you prefer please have ready your own wraps and blankets in plain colours or patterns that aren't too busy
or brightly coloured, textured wraps & blankets photograph beautifully.

I often photograph newborns with no clothes, just bloomers over nappies and then use wraps & blankets. If you have any specific outfits you would like the baby in please have these ready. Any sentimental accessorises, soft toys, blankets knitted by grandparents etc can be included if you wish.

Newborns are unpredictable and aren’t usually in any kind of routine yet. Its best if your newborn has a feed just before I arrive, so they are settled and sleepy. If it doesn't go to plan please don't worry, my newborn sessions are baby led, so we often start and stop with newborns if they need a cuddle or more feeding and we just work with them and their needs at the time.

Those small moments in between any unsettling or crying are beautiful. People are often surprised to see there are so many great pictures.
The only job I give parents is to relax & enjoy it! I will do all of the hard work.
I will give direction during the session so you will know exactly what to do. Mostly being to cuddle & smother them and each other in kisses!
Children match your energy, so if you are relaxed and having fun and showing them how much you love them,

they will show you the same in return.

What to wear

I recommend you choose a style you like and a few colours you like as well
Pick colours that compliment each other
eg. neutral colours (white, tans, greys, light denim etc)
soft colours (Light pinks, blues, yellow etc)
deep colours (jewel tones, like mustard yellow, deep purple, turquoise, dark pink etc) Textures look great, eg lace, velvet, faux fur, ruffles etc
Avoid busy patterns and big pictures or logos.
Beanies, hats or little booties can be included you wish. Complimenting the colours will make a huge a difference in the final product.

After the session

After your session, I will get to work on culling your images down to the very best of the best (typically between 50-80 images/session, then editing those images and getting them up into your gallery. Once they're ready, I'll be in touch with the link to your slideshow & gallery of images.

When you're ready to click the slideshow, I encourage you to make an event of it! Queue it up on your tv or a large computer screen and gather the whole family around (sound up!)... the first time you see your photos is always the best.

Your gallery is available for 7 days, to choose which collection and how many images you would like included. Once you've selected and paid for your collection, I do a final edit on your chosen images, this can take 10-14 days then you will be sent a link to download the number of images that corresponds with your collection.

Downloading your files:
Once you've received the link to download your chosen images, I'd encourage you to do that immediately. The process is simple: use the down arrow in the upper right corner of your gallery - click on that and the system will walk you through the download process. The images will download as a zip file, which you can double-click on to expand. I suggest you make a second copy of the expanded files, then save the two copies to two different locations - I generally recommend that one copy be saved to an easily accessible drive (either on your computer or on an external hard drive), and that the other get saved to the cloud (Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.).

Copyrights (and wrongs):
Once you've got your digital images in hand, you are free to print them when, where, and as often as
you wish - you can use them to make holiday cards, share on your social media pages or personal blog, etc. The only things you can't do are related to the resale of your photos or use for commercial/business purposes. For instance, if you authored a book, you'd need additional permission to use one of the photos on the dust jacket, and you wouldn't be able to enter one of the photos into a contest and win prize money for it. Otherwise, you've got free reign.

Printing your images
While everything that I offer in my store is printed in professional labs and guaranteed to be beautiful, I also recognize that you may want to print your images yourself, and thanks to those digital image files, you absolutely can! I recommend

ProAm Digital for local printing and Pixel Perfect for online prints. Be sure to upload the original files you downloaded, not copies. The files you receive from me should allow you to print up to 20x30" at minimum.
