Christmas Mini Session Prep Guide
Make it stand out
Christmas mini sessions are all about capturing the magic of the season and creating beautiful memories with your family
Mini sessions are short and sweet
I've put together a few tips to help you prepare, so you can arrive feeling organised and ready to enjoy your time in front of the camera.
1. What to Wear
Choosing outfits is one of the easiest ways to create beautiful, timeless Christmas photos. For my Christmas minis, I recommend keeping things simple, coordinating your outfits rather than matching everyone exactly.
Colours that photograph beautifully:
Cream, ivory and soft white
Beige, tan and warm neutrals
Deep green and forest green
Burgundy, rust and muted reds
Brown, caramel and soft earthy tones
A few styling tips:
Choose comfortable clothing that the kids can move around in.
Coordinate colours across the family rather than dressing everyone identically.
Avoid large logos, bold graphics and busy patterns. One or two people in a small pattern is fine.
Textures such as knits, linen, corduroy and soft cotton add beautiful detail.
If you’d like to include a few fun Christmas props in your photos, feel free to bring along any hats, headbands or other little accessories you’d love to use!
A timeless, soft and natural colour palette featuring cream, ivory, beige, tan and warm earthy tones.
A beautiful mix of deep greens, rich burgundy, cream, ivory and warm earthy neutrals. This palette adds a classic Christmas feel while remaining timeless, elegant and natural.
2. Preparing the Kids
Keep it relaxed. Let them know they're going to have some Christmas photos taken, but avoid putting pressure on them to smile.
Make sure they're rested. If possible, work around nap times and avoid arriving when they're overtired.
Have a little snack beforehand. A happy, well-fed child is usually much more comfortable.
Bring a favourite comfort item if needed. A small toy can help younger children settle in, as long as your happy for the toy to be in the photos
Follow their lead. I'll help guide the session and encourage natural interactions, cuddles and genuine smiles.
Please don't worry if your children are shy, energetic or need a little time to warm up. I'm used to working with kids of all personalities, and we'll make the most of the time together.
4. What to Expect During Your Session
My Christmas mini sessions are designed to be short, sweet and relaxed, giving us time to capture a lovely variety of images without needing to spend too long in front of the camera.
I'll gently guide you through the session, but there is no need to know how to pose.
We might capture:
Everyone together looking at the camera.
Parents cuddling their little ones.
Sibling moments and sweet interactions.
Genuine smiles, laughter and playful moments.
Those little in-between expressions that show your children's personalities.
I'll help you along the way, so you can focus on enjoying the moment rather than worrying about what to do.
LOCATION
Sister Studio
The studio is located at Unit 16, 2 Templar Place, Bennetts Green.
There is visitor parking available around the complex, so you can park in any available visitor space when you arrive.
Arrival Time: Please arrive 5–10 minutes before your scheduled booking so we’re ready to get started on time. Each session is just 20 minutes, so arriving late will reduce your photography time. Arriving a little early means we can make the most of every minute.
AFTER YOUR SESSION
After your session, I will get to work on culling your images down to the very best of the best (typically between 10-20 images), then editing those images and getting them up into your gallery. Once they're ready, I'll be in touch with the link to your gallery of images.
Your gallery is available for 7 days, to choose your favourite 5 images. You will be sent a link to download your chosen images.
Downloading your files:
Once you've received the link to download your chosen images, I'd encourage you to do that immediately. The process is simple: use the down arrow in the upper right corner of your gallery - click on that and the system will walk you through the download process. The images will download as a zip file, which you can double-click on to expand. I suggest you make a second copy of the expanded files, then save the two copies to two different locations - I generally recommend that one copy be saved to an easily accessible drive (either on your computer or on an external hard drive), and that the other get saved to the cloud (Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.).
Once you've got your digital images in hand, you are free to print them when, where, and as often as
you wish - you can use them to make Christmas cards, share on your social media pages or email to family & friends, etc.
Printing your images
While everything that I offer in my store is printed in professional labs and guaranteed to be beautiful, I also recognise that you may want to print your images yourself, and thanks to those digital image files, you absolutely can! I recommend
ProAm Digital for local printing and Frame Fox, Pixel Perfect and Brilliant Prints for online printing, framing, and canvas. Be sure to upload the original files you downloaded, not copies. The files you receive from me should allow you to print up to 20x30"
UPGRADE YOUR GALLERY
If you love all the photos from your session (which I’m sure you will) you have the option to upgrade to the whole gallery for $200.
You have a SHOP in your online gallery which is very easy to navigate
Digital images are great, They’re easy to access, easy to share with family, easy to keep close in everyday life.
Digital images absolutely have their place, and you can print your own photos with your digital files.
But they don’t complete the experience.
The session captures your story.
Printing finishes it.
That’s why I don’t see digital images as the final product, they’re the beginning. The finished experience is when your memories are tangible, visible, and woven into your home and your family’s legacy.
